Summer
Fishing
Sheep Creek Lodge is located in the heart of fishing country. Within
a 15 square mile area of the Lodge, world-class fishing is available in
scores of local rivers, streams, and lakes. During the spring, summer
and fall seasons, Sheep Creek itself boasts annual runs of 5 types
of salmon, arctic grayling, plus doly varden, and rainbow trout.
For the vast majority of anglers, content to fish local streams
teeming with salmon and trout species, the king salmon run begins
in mid to late May where 30 – 70 pounders are caught commonly.
In late June and early July this run is replaced largely by the
more aggressive 10 – 25 pound silver, pink, red and chum salmon.
Spring and fall are the best seasons for trout and grayling fishing
when 20 – 30 inch rainbows are caught routinely.
Natural History Tours
Located within a mixed deciduous/coniferous forest type,
the 25 acre property is biologically diverse with many arctic and
subarctic plant species, and is utilized extensively by a wide array
of indigenous birds and mammals, including bald eagles, lynx, wolves,
moose, grizzly bears, and black bears. All of these animals have
been seen on the property.
Winter Recreational Activities
Winter offers fantastic outdoor activities, including snow mobiling,
dog-mushing, and cross-country skiing. In particular, snowmachining,
one of the Lodge’s most popular winter pastimes
is enjoyed by both local residents and tourists who take advantage
of the diverse back-country snowmachine trails. With over one hundred
miles of trails, Sheep Creek Lodge is a natural choice for this and other winter
activities.
