Winter offers fantastic outdoor activities, including snow machining, dog-mushing, and cross-country skiing. In particular, snow machining, is one of the most popular winter pastimes, for guests of Sheep Creek Lodge and is enjoyed by both local residents and tourists who take advantage of the diverse back-country snow machine trails. With over one hundred miles of trails in the immediate vicinity of Sheep Creek Lodge, the lodge is a natural choice for a base camp for this and other winter activities. In addition the first week of March includes the restart of the Iditarod dog mushing race in Willow, just 16 miles south of the Sheep Creek Lodge. Come stay with us and avoid the traffic heading north to the re-start.
Sheep Creek Lodge is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of winter. Nearly any time (conditions permitting), the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) can be seen. In late fall and winter these ionic displays can be nothing less than breathtaking and awe inspiring. Tourists from around the world view these lights as harbinger of good luck particularly to those couples who are anticipating or planning for a baby. Please come visit us at Sheep Creek Lodge to experience the thrill of this spectacular, natural phenomenon, the Alaskan Northern Lights.
